Suicide, far from being a solution, is a stupid aggravation of the situation, that for perhaps centuries will make life intolerable. — The Mother, 12 June 1972

Know for certain that to commit suicide is the most foolish action that a man can do; because the end of the body does not mean the end of the consciousness and what was troubling you while you were alive continues to trouble you when you are dead, without the possibility of diverting your mind which you can get when you are alive. — The Mother, 16 July 1969

The Hindu: Evicted from Aurobindo Ashram, two sisters, mother end life

The article also informs of subsequent attacks on the ashram by activists of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam:

“Meanwhile, the news of the drowning deaths sparked off violent protests with a group of miscreants attacking the Ashram and its properties, including a petrol bunk.

Since morning, the police had barricaded the entire area near the Ashram located on Rangapillai Street to pre-empt any untoward incident.

However, by 11 a.m. a group of around 50 activists, owing allegiance to the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam reached the spot on two-wheelers. While the police resisted the attempts by the activists to breach the security cordon, several of them started to pelt stones at the Ashram shattering a few window panels.

A short while later, a lesser-known group, held a protest and courted arrest.

    M. Elango of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam alleged that Ashram was engaged in irregularities and was responsible for the deaths of its members. They wanted the Government to appoint a special officer and take over the Ashram.

A petrol station and a supermarket run by the Ashram were also vandalised.”
