A Plea by the Sri Aurobindo Society

The Society has recently redesigned its website. The new direct link is http://www.aurosociety.org/. The Important note for all the Members, Branches & Centres of the Society on the book “The Lives of Sri Aurobindo” by Peter Heehs appears to have disappeared. (Correction: not quite yet. See below.) In its place we find the following (see SAS Announcements in the left sidebar):

A Plea

One watches with great unease the goings on related to “The Lives of Sri Aurobindo” by Peter Heehs. Though it all started with the book, it has now taken a direction which hits at the very gut of every devotee all over the world. What is being uttered verbally and in writing is cheap, indecent, vicious and sometimes false. It has come down to even personal levels. We seem to be hurtling towards disaster. The happenings are hurting not just the Ashram but all related institutions. In fact, the image of all devotees has dropped to a ridiculously low level. It is difficult for one to answer the queries of people who are avid internet visitors and who are also exposed to all kinds of rumours. But we continue to watch as bystanders helplessly looking at the cross-fire. Each one of us has a lurking feeling that Mahakali’s Action is round the corner. How true, this feeling! If we do not stop, the Mighty Force will not wait. This, though, for a while, may derail the very movement of Sri Aurobindo. No doubt the Action will cleanse, but at what cost?

Let all sides call a halt—we owe it to the Mother.

We all must sit down together, introspect and talk to each other to hammer out a final solution with trust and an open heart. The Society will be happy to join.

P.S. The Important Note is still visible here. If this link goes dead, we keep a record here.
P.P.S. The Integral Yoga Impostor has managed to retrieve the Important Note, which has also been immortalized in the June 2012 issue of the Society’s All India Magazine:

“The Society will be happy to join.”

Of course the Society will be happy to join!!! This is what they have been wanting all along. Create and encourage trouble so that they can push at least one foot into the door of the Ashram. Once the Society has even their little toe into the Ashram’s affairs you can bet that it’s only a matter of time before they will be wanting to dictate their terms and conditions to the Ashram’s trustees. We all know these crafty and smooth operators. Fortunately, as pointed out by Jeev, even Pranab wanted to keep the Society at more than an arm’s length. In Pranab’s own words “Society, I say GET OUT, GET OUT I SAY you Society Crooks.” Vijay’s nightmares are far from over!!!

They must have gotten some nasty feedback from their members for their book bashing and for providing the chief rabble rousers Alok Pandey and Sraddhalu Ranade with a platform (along with the rabble to rouse).

Case in point: An announcement on the SAS website

WHAT Talk-series by Dr Alok Pandey on Sri Aurobindo’s book ‘Savitri’
    WHEN Aug 17 – 23, 2012
WHERE Society House, No.11, St Martin Street, Puducherry

SAS has obviously mastered the art of pretending to be what it is not. Its plea is clearly a ploy to appear neutral and cover up all its clandestine activities against the Ashram.

Unfortunately it found a place inside the Ashram too ( notice board).

Does the SAS really want to be taken seriously??? They have Gopal Bhattacharjee as a member of their Executive Committee – the “apex decision-making body of the Society” – whose son Jayant is not only one of the principal trouble-makers, but is even said to be the main financier of the anti-Ashram Trust campaigns. The same Executive Committe now issues a Plea??? And what a wishy-washy plea that too!!!

The SAS believe that they are “Creating the Next Future.” So they now have exclusive rights over the Next Future which they and only they can shape. And they are going about it rather systematically. First, they create and encourage trouble in the Ashram. Then they extend their benevolent helping hand to fix the Ashram’s problems that they have themselves created. How sweet!

Pradeep Narang is equally responsible for the mayhem created by society against the ashram.

S.A.S.: “Let all sides call a halt — we owe it to the Mother.”

Who the heck is the S.A.S. to address and rebuke the Aurobindonian Collective about what the collective owes or doesn’t owe to the Mother?
Is Vijay Poddar and the S.A.S. Executive Committee the new self-anointed Pope and papal conclave of our collective to issue such statements?
If they want this mess to halt, it is the S.A.S. that needs to act first. Let them sack Gopal Bhattacharjee from the S.A.S. EC. Let them dissociate themselves from Ranade and his clan. Let them cleanse the S.A.S. of slimy creeps like Alok Pandey. Let them dismantle the groups that they have created and nurtured in order to infiltrate the Ashram and slowly take it over.
Let the S.A.S. take the first logical step, everything else will fall into place.

I have been coming to the ashram from early 80s. I have always been suspecting Society since then. They always present a good-goody face but underneath all that they are interested in are fame, power and money. Pradeep Narang is basically a businessman who runs Society like a business organization. Vijay Poddar thinks that he is a great intellectual but in reality all that he wants is to cling to some dogmas which he himself has created. Thank God that Auroville was able to come out of the clutches of Society.

Auroville has come out of society’s clutches but Ashram still not. Trustees should note and act, act immediately. Society doesnt deserve the magnanimity shown by the SAATrust.

Vijay Poddar’s mind seems to have become blurred and his ego inflated because of the little empire they have been able to build. Why doesn’t he solve his own problems instead of meddling into Ashram affairs.

“The happenings are hurting not just the Ashram but all related institutions”. Wowww

It was OK if the happenings were hurting only the Ashram. They didnot expect the related institution ( Society) too could get hurt. “To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction”. In society’s case the reaction will not be equal but will be many times more….. BEWARE .

    Dear Editor,

Last few centuries have marked the emergence of so many religions : there was Hinduism with its Saivism, Vaisnavism, Saktism, Islam, Bahaism, Sikhism, Hebewism, Catholicism, Protestantism, and so many more . But at the end of the first 10 years of this century we got a new religion : Vijayism. That is bound to supplant all other in times it come.

I ran into this blog today and am pained to find aberrations of this dimension in the collective behaviour of the Society. Whither the idealist state of Mother’s teaching? I am due for the renewal of my membership with Society this month; but i question myself now if it is all worth it? I think I’ll ask Mother directly today.

Did you ask the Mother ? What did She say ?

Yes Rina ji. I got my membership renewed. I didn’t get any inner resistance in doing so, as if my comment mattered little on the face of its pristine purpose that may not dwell over, or seek its fulfillment from, all the activities of the Society but prevails anyway among those who are blessed to aspire. I also get from the Society messages on important days. I don’t know how they are generated, but that matters little. The last message- on the 24th April, has been very inspiring; and that message gives me the Society, my connections, my community. The Society, I think has expanded beyond its visible, statutory and physical levels and is turning vibrant by every single day. So the work is on. In and out, the work is on. Anand mai Chaitanyamai Satya mai parme.
