Taxi drivers

…our Ashram is under the clutch of the Asuras and the age-old glorious culture and tradition of our Motherland is going to be ruined by a foreign taxi-driver aided by our Trustees who are extremely devoted to him…

Wasn’t “the age-old glorious culture and tradition of our Motherland” created in large part by this notorious butter thief?

LOL. Unbelievable how laughable these zealots can get!

To listen to some devout people, one would imagine that God never laughs; Heine was nearer the mark when he found in Him the divine Aristophanes.

God’s laughter is sometimes very coarse and unfit for polite ears; He is not satisfied with being Molière, He must needs also be Aristophanes and Rabelais.

If men took life less seriously, they could very soon make it more perfect. God never takes His works seriously; therefore one looks out on this wonderful Universe.

A God who cannot smile, could not have created this humorous universe.

O Aristophanes of the universe, thou who watchest thy world and laughest sweetly to thyself, wilt thou not let me too see with divine eyes and share in thy worldwide laughters?

    Excellent! a wonderfully illustrated comparison….

    It is indeed astonishing!

What should be considered as an achievement to be put to the credit of Sri Aurobindo’s yoga – a former taxi-driver becoming a great scholar in the congenial atmosphere of the Ashram – is being interpreted as a matter of shame and contempt by some asinine philistines puffed up with insane jealousy.

How well timed! Did you realize that the date of this post and all previous comments was World Laughter Day?

    Dear Sirs,
This is the President of the International Taxi-Driver’s Welfare Association writing to you. This is to convey that the sentiments of Millions of Taxi-drivers the world over are deeply hurt and offended by the comments that the critics of our ex-comrade Peter Heehs have been making on other websites.
We are a modest, hard-working and underprivileged lot who aspire to rise and achieve the great heights that our comrade Peter Heehs has achieved, receiving world recognition for his modest and sincere work.
We are currently mobilizing our Indian counterparts to act against Peter Heehs’ critics because they are discriminating against and insulting Millions of hard working Indians who take on the profession of driving taxis and autorickshaws to provide safe and convenient transportation to the nation.
Several of these hard working taxi-driving Indians aspire to achieve more in life (c.f:, whereas it appears that so-called scholars and spiritual snobs are oppressing the hard-working Indian taxi-drivers and other underprivileged working classes and preventing them from achieving better prospects, especially in the field of history.
The actions of these so-called scholars and spiritual snobs are a great injustice and a serious security and social threat to India and the world. We shall mobilize all our resources, to act against this oppressive and exploitative lot.
In the meantime we have put out a circular to prohibit all taxi and autorickshaw drivers from offering rides to the following offenders: Sraddhalu Ranade, Alok Pandey, RY Deshpande, Kittu Reddy, Major Joker Bakshi.

    …these so-called scholars and spiritual snobs…

This never-ending reference to the “foreign taxi driver” reveals two black stains on the collective Indian psyche: caste-based discrimination and xenophobia, the latter being a natural consequence of the former:

“The Out-caste is a bye-product of the Caste system. There will be outcastes as long as there are castes. Nothing can emancipate the Out-caste except the destruction of the Caste system. Nothing can help to save Hindus and ensure their survival in the coming struggle except the purging of the Hindu Faith of this odious and vicious dogma.”— Dr. Ambedkar, 1933.

In today’s Deccan Herald, former Supreme Court Justice Shivraj V Patil names the caste system as one of three factors that are ruining India, next to corruption and crime.

“…our Ashram is under the clutch of the Asuras and the age-old glorious culture and tradition of our Motherland is going to be ruined by a foreign taxi-driver…”

These heinous words points to the blatant ignorance of the chaturvarnya system of ancient India, forerunning the future ideal society. The sudra or fourth varna was equally necessary to the perfection of society symbolised by the virat purusa, whose different body parts corresponded to one of the four varnas.

Furthermore, according to the Bhagavadgita all human beings should elicit in themselves the perfection of each varna, as different modes, complementary to each other, to serve the Divine and attain liberation.

And what about Adi Shankara, whose brahmanic snobbery was humbled by the candala barring his path, until the Outcast unveiled his real form: Shiva?

Not to mention the sanatana dharma, for which even agnosticism, even atheism are paths potentially conducive to the supreme goal!

As Deshpande blocks my replies to the customary smearing in “Mirror of Tomorrow” (the gentleman’s customary policy), I reply through Auroleaks.

Humour is the hallmark of a great soul. One clamorous divide between real and fake gurus and spiritual beings is laughter, a sense of amusement and delight. The others only curse, smear and defame.

All my gratitude goes to the “International Taxi Drivers’ Association”, authoring a truly inspiring piece that, needless to say, completely escapes the doom-mongers. However, though prompted by such exhilarating words, my comment was very, very serious. I ask: how can anyone use such libellous, hateful language – moreover if Indian, which is the very negation of all that the soul and genius of India stand for?

Enough of the dropout and taxi-driver garbage! Isn’t George Van Vreckem a “drop-out”? So what? Besides, was the Mother a graduate? Did she attach any importance to diplomas and certificates? Western youth pick up any job they can get, to survive and pay higher and higher educational fees. Peter Heehs was very young when he moved to India; how else would he get the money that fast?

In 1997 I published a 223 page book, “Immortal India – Towards the Ideal Society”, sponsored by the Sri Aurobindo 125th Birth Anniversary Group, Auroville, with the financial support of the GOI. In 2005 The Auroville Foundation (GOI) reprinted my book. Incidentally, I had given a copy of it to Sraddhalu, Ananda Reddy and Ry Deshpande. My two previous comments were written based on several statements by Sri Aurobindo published in that book, and also in the successive one I published, “The Gnostic Cycle – Towards the Supermind”.

In the ideal society of ancient India one belonged to the varna by merit only; a sudra was eligible for moksha no less than a Brahmin, menial service being just one way to attain the Divine. And on top, the perfect being had to encompass all the qualities of the four varnas, as well as those of the three gunas; this is a foremost component of the Bhagavadgita teaching. It was indeed the Upanishadic age that opened the gates to the masses.
When some twenty years ago I visited the Pollachi Ashram of Vetatiri Maharishi, a Tamil Siddha and Kundalini yogi whose “Resolution for World Peace” had been endorsed by the United Nations on his 84th birthday, the cleaners/cookers/ watchmen etc. were sadhaks who got the same initiations all others got. The outcome was tangible: in the absence of social/pseudo-spiritual hierarchies, the labour too was loving and gentle. Mata Amritanandamayi goes further: all work is done exclusively by the Ashram inmates and guests; including the toilets’ maintenance (Western sadhaks in particular, doing the job for years, day in and day out), which, given the abrupt inrush of thousands of people twice a week, doesn’t look exactly as a bed of roses. In the third millennium – not back to ancient India! And what else the Mother’s real Auroville, envisioned without servants and paid labour, is meant to be? Who will drive the public transport, in her true Auroville, and clean the toilets, but us?

I have acknowledged, over and again, that there are flaws in the Heehs’ biography; there is no such thing as fully black or fully white camps. But it is certainly not by character assassination and mass smearing that any controversy can be sorted out. Unless the true spirit of Yoga and Indian spirituality, where caste and social labelling and discrimination have no place, is recovered, there is only avidhya.

Paulette, you need to discriminate between your true friends and your real enemies. When you add your friends’ email addresses to communications to your enemies, please add them as recipients of blind carbon copies. You are at liberty to put yourself in danger, but not to play with other people’s lives and destiny. These guys are dangerous. They are not warriors, they are sharp-shooters, snipers. I suspect them to be in the long term more dangerous than Navajata. You are in their line of sight. Time for you to take cover and learn the virtues of silence for a while. The best would be if they forget about you. If the time comes again for Aurovillians to rise in mass – one never knows! – you will be free to join the melee. Meanwhile, keep quiet.

there is no such thing as fully black or fully white camps.

That’s were you are wrong. We are all black. The battle is between black fellows who don’t pretend to be white, and black bastards who pretend to be white. The only white figure in this darkness is you, Paulette. For a sniper, you make a wonderful target.

    Take cover you fool!

    With Love…

Paulette is a courageous woman. She even took on Rajiv Malhotra when he visited Auroville. You can see their discussion 5 minutes into this video

A pity Paulette didn’t point out to Rajiv Malhotra that the language of Govind, RYD, Sraddhalu & co. could “U-turn” the last few Western Ashramites left in Puducherry and has an equally chilling effect on Newcomers to Auroville. What a way to promote Indian culture!

In praising Malhotra’s book “Breaking India” Subramanian Swamy points out old sentiments lingering in South India: all non-Dravidian Ashram dissidents should be wary of seeking (legal) advice from people like N. Nandhivarman ( ): they could be U-turned themselves from the South.
