The silent dharna that never was

We didn’t have to wait long to see what “affirmative spirituality” means in practice.

Dear all,

Everyone knows that the previous dharna was a failure, as very few people turned up for it (photo attached).

The first Dharna

This time, SR and co have got permission for 3 days, and have arranged a large number of persons to come from Orissa/Bengal (around a 100) to participate in the dharna. A Marriage Hall has been arranged for their meals and briefing sessions. This time, even fewer known persons and Ashramites are involved in the dharna. The faces of the people sitting are largely unknown, and are clearly not resident of the Ashram/Pondy town. (photo attached)

Second Dharna

In blatant violation of their promise to maintain a peaceful protest to the police, today just before 10:00 a.m., in anticipation of the Trust Meeting held every Monday, a group of about 30-40 persons gathered in front of the Trust Office door. As Manoj-da, Dilip Mahtani, and other trustees came to the office one by one, the group accosted each one and tried to hand over certain papers.

When Dr. Datta was about to enter the Grace Office, the group of persons turned violent. They tried to snatch away his files, they held his shoulders and pushed him, physically assaulted him, and abused him with threatening language. Upon hearing the shouting, ex-students passing by and persons from the Trust office came to the rescue of Dilip-da, and helped him to enter the office. Even after Dilip-da entered the office, the group continued to shout and agitate with the persons who had come to the resue of Dilip-da. The police was then called to restore law and order. During this entire time, Sraddhalu stood by, filmed the attack, and Varun, Raman and a few other hostile inmates did nothing to help Dr. Datta who was being mercilessly hounded by these unknown persons.

This morning’s incidents have shattered the myth of silent dharna and leave no more doubts regarding the true intentions of its putative leaders and organizers. It looks like a ploy to deliberately create a law-and-order problem.

In 1963, the Mother found the clue to the “affirmative spirituality” of SR and his fanatics, and the real occult source of their inspiration:

“… I discovered that there is a group of peole wanting to create a kind of religion based on the revelation of Sri Aurobindo. But they have taken only the side of power and force, a certain kind of knowledge and all which could be utilised by Asuric forces. There is a big Asuric being that has succeeded in taking the appearance of Sri Aurobindo. It is only an appearance….

“… What the Ausuric Force that has succeeded in taking the appearance of Sri Aurobindo will create is a new religion or thought, perhaps cruel and merciless, in the name of the Supramental Realisation. But everybody must know that it is not true, it is not Sri Aurobindo’s teaching, not the truth of his teaching. The truth of Sri Aurobindo is a truth of love and light and mercy. He is good and great and compassionate and divine….

“Et c’est Lui qui aura la victoire finale….”
(And He will have the final victory)

Jayant Bhattacharjee: classmate and old pal of Sraddhalu, son of the (nominal) head of the Sri Aurobindo Society, husband of Geetanjali.

Overheard: “Poor Jayant. He complained to someone recently about how much all this is costing him. All those train tickets, the marriage hall, the conference room at a 5-star hotel, the lawyers’ fees, it all adds up and has to be paid for out of his hard-earned wealth.”

To be fair, Colombia University Press should give some royalty to “poor Jayant”: for each of his dharnas, this publisher sells at least a 100 more copies of “The Lives”. One cannot dream of a better and more energetic advertising campaign. By now, Peter Heehs is as famous as Salman Rushdie.

    Amazon too should contribute….

Please stop publishing letters/ details in open view. Lets all take some time to watch the Divine take care of it. By publishing these things on the web all we are doing is that trying to polarize the situation. We are making the work of the divine even more difficult by discussing these things openly.

Looks like the forces behind these things are beyond human grasp, so a force beyond human capacity may be needed to resolve things. So lets leave it in the Divine hands and keep quite.

Like the Mother said, if you see anything unhappy in the Ashram, just keep quite, that is the way of you being faithful to the divine.
